The Heart of Service
How Hospice
Volunteers Support You and Your Family
At Angel Hands Hospice, we believe in the power of presence. Our trained volunteers are here to offer comfort, companionship, and quiet support during this sacred time in your life journey.
Hospice volunteers are a gentle extension of our care team. They do not provide any hands-on medical care or spiritual guidance, but their presence can offer meaningful relief, emotional connection, and a peaceful atmosphere for both patients and caregivers.
What Hospice Volunteers Can Offer
Our volunteers serve with care, respect, and a listening heart. Depending on your preferences and needs, volunteers may:
Sit bedside to provide companionship
Read a favorite book, share poetry, or play calming music
Offer quiet presence during naps or moments of rest
Paint nails or brush hair gently (with permission)
Provide brief breaks for caregivers by staying with the patient
Help with light, non-hazardous cleaning or organizing personal items (such as tidying bedside tables or folding blankets)
Assist with legacy projects, such as journaling, letter writing, memory boxes, or our Legacy E-Book — a digital keepsake created from a patient’s stories, reflections, and photos that can be shared with loved ones
Each volunteer is matched thoughtfully to the individual and family, respecting personalities, beliefs, and boundaries.
What Hospice Volunteers Cannot Do
To ensure safety and respect for everyone involved, volunteers do not:
Provide any hands-on or clinical care (including bathing, lifting, medication, or wound care)
Assist patients to or from the restroom or with toileting needs
Perform deep cleaning, lifting, or physical household tasks
Offer religious or spiritual counseling or prayer
Replace the roles of our trained medical, social work, or chaplaincy staff
Volunteers are not substitutes for professional caregivers. They are companions—offering time, attention, and heartfelt presence in a safe and respectful way.
Your Comfort Comes First
You always have a choice. If you prefer not to receive volunteer visits, or if you wish to adjust how often they come, just let us know. Some families enjoy regular visits, while others prefer occasional check-ins. We are here to support what feels best for you.
